New course ‘Detailing Ventilated Facades’ available on OPENFACE

A new course is available on OPENFACE website. The course is entitled ‘Detailing Ventilated Facades’ which aims to delve deeper into façade detailing techniques, with a focus on advanced concepts and real-world case studies.
This course focuses on a key challenge in façade design: detailing the interface between ventilated façades and windows. Through a step-by-step approach, you’ll learn how to develop technical drawings, explore material options, and understand how different disciplines contribute to the detailing process. Using real examples like the Gehry-Bauten in Düsseldorf, you’ll sketch, refine, and review façade details with input from experts in engineering, physics, and construction.
Course topics:
- Understanding ventilated façades and their interface with windows
- Sketching and defining façade geometries using real-world examples
- Developing and refining technical details for different materials (metal, brick, plaster)
- Addressing curved and free-form façade geometries
- Reviewing details with experts in engineering, physics, and construction
- Finalising drawings and exploring alternative cladding systems (e.g. GFRP, textiles, stone, green façades)
- Duration: 6 weeks / 3-4 hours per week
- Format: Online, Instructor-paced
- Certificate: Audit only / Verified Certificate
